We have families that drive in from as far away as Emma, Missouri to the east and Topeka, Kansas to the west.  Our customers come from as far south as Wichita and as far north as Maryville, MO.   And these aren’t just clients that stop in once or come with extended family during the holidays.  These are our regular portrait studio customers.

Mostly, though, our customers come from Kansas City and Olathe, Overland Park and Lenexa, Gardner and Ottawa.  Liberty and Lee’s Summit are two other areas that seem to like what we do.  Sure, it’s a drive from those cities.  But we know we are Fast.  We are Fun.  And we are Affordable.

Fun can start from the time you arrive.  We’ll get you in at your appointed time so you’ll be in the right frame of mind to move forward.  We’ll take some of the more traditional poses and then we may ask if you want to play around a bit to see if we can make a fun portrait.  Some folks decline.  Some people take us up on it.  The more you decide to go along the better the fun pictures will come out.

If you have looked around on our website or facebook page before you know that we like to experiment a little with the portrait studio norm.  Here are some more fun pictures we made that people purchased and took home with them to share with family and friends.

Portraits Today Studios is located in Olathe, Kansas and serves the entire Kansas City area.  Why, just this weekend we had people in from North Kansas City, Gardner, Olathe, Paola, Lee’s Summit and Smithville, Missouri.  We’re toying with the idea of a second location in Kansas City’s northland…though that is probably a bit down the road.  But in the mean time, you can drive a couple extra miles to get the portraits you want.  We promise you we’ll make it worth your while.

During the Christmas season we make a lot of family portraits.  Family photography is fun and challenging.  We know there is a lot of planning that goes in to getting the family coordinated with both clothing and schedules.  We try to keep it relaxed.  We try to keep your family portrait session moving.  And we always strive to get you started when your appointment says you should start…not 45 minutes later.

Most of our portrait sessions last anywhere from twenty to forty-five minutes depending on how many people, how many posing sequences (Mom with kids, dad with kids, grandma with parents, etc.)  and the age of the subjects.   We don’t limit the number of poses you can choose from.  With adults we can take as little as 25-30 shots and have some great photos to choose from.  But if we are shooting three children 4 years and under you can bet we’re gonna have to take a lot more than that!

How long do your portrait sessions last?  Well, most of our customers will leave, with portraits in hand, in about an hour and fifteen minutes to an hour and a half from the time their appointment begins.  Again, that can fluctuate depending on need and age of subjects.  But we find that to be the norm.

Who should you compare us to?  Well, if you have been to other portraits studios around Kansas City I think you would find we are a lot like Portrait Innovations in that we offer same-day availability of your portraits.  We have lots of converts of theirs.  And we like to run on time.  So that may be on difference.  But we also think that we offer fun, quality photography at an affordable price.  We like to think of ourselves like a Portrait Innovation.  We know we’re a cut above Olan Mills and Picture Me and Target and such.  But we’re not a boutique photographer.   We won’t spend hours and hours with you.  But we won’t charge you hundreds and hundreds and maybe thousands, either.

Look at this little Santa baby.  Isn’t he a cutie?  He is a member of our Baby’s First Year Photo Club.  It’s a heck’uva deal for growing families wanting to keep up to date with their baby portraits.  Baby photography is fun and that’s why we like doing it.  He had a Santa hat on for a few of the shots but mom liked this baby picture the best.

This teen-something was a pleasure to work with.  She is out there auditioning. So if you know of anyone that needs a budding young actress, give us a call and we’ll forward them your number.

We absolutely, positively, without-a-doubt love, love, love to make senior portraits.  Senior pictures are a right-of-passage for all graduating students anymore.  This high school senior is our of Olathe Northwest and this is one of his senior portraits.  One of the fun things to do to make a quality senior portrait is to involve something the young man or woman likes to do and/or feels passionate about.  I love this senior portrait because it mixes his passion for music, his joy for life and yes, a little reluctance to make his senior pictures.  Not all that uncommon for the boys.

And, of course, it’s Christmas pictures time here in Kansas City.   For many families, Christmas is the time to catch up on their family portraits.  The loved ones have all gathered.  All you really need is to get them organized and head on in to the portrait studio.  We get lots of groups of 11 or 14 or even 23 people.  It’s challenging.  It’s hard work.  But it sure does bring a smile to the faces of everyone when we make a beautiful family portrait.

Enjoy the holidays this Christmas 2010.  Remember what you’re thankful for on Thanksgiving.  And don’t forget to reach out to at least one person in need.  Even if money is tight an encouraging word can make a difference in someone’s life.  Think back to when someone encouraged you…and then pay it forward.

Portraits Today Studios offers same day portrait services.  Any print 10″ x 13″ or smaller is usually ready within the half hour.  16×20 prints or canvas prints require outlab service and are usually available 3-5 business days later.  Rush service is available on outlab for an additional fee.
