The Photoshop Effect: How Much Is Too Much?

I deal with the question of Photoshop each and every day. Here at Portraits Today Studios we are about affordable, same-day portrait photography. And the biggest part of our business is photographing babies, children and their families. So while the subject of photoshop doesn’t come up very often except to ask ”can you put this head on that picture?” when taking children’s portraits it comes up nearly every time when we get to mom’s photos.

“Can you get rid of the wrinkles under my eyes?”

“Can you fix my scar?”

“Can you help me lose ten pounds?”

“Can you…?”

The answer to all of the questions is “Yes!” I can. Now, it’s probably not going to be same day. And there will probably be an additional fee unless you are already paying for one of our Premium Portrait Packages or are a high school senior client at SeniorPhotosKC.com. But how much is too much when it comes to Photoshop retouching?

I’m all for helping you look your best. It’s what I do. But it’s also important, especially for women, and doubly especially (is that a proper phrase?) for teenage girls, to understand that a portrait that has been touched up in even the slightest manner is not 100% reality. That’s okay. Until someone starts getting an eating disorder because they are trying to look like someone who doesn’t even look like that them-self.

Ladies, you are beautiful the way you are. I’ve seen moms self-depricate at their photographs. They have a husband and beautiful children with them and all they can do is see their flaws. Sure we can touch those up. And we’re happy to do so. But just remember those beautiful tv types, well, they ain’t that perfect, either.

Social Media Moms of Kansas City

This is a shout out to the social media moms of Kansas City. We’ve been noticing some reviews of Portraits Today Studios photography on facebook and on blogs. So far all the words have been either encouraging and/or fair. If you have tried us here please write about your experiences. If you’d like to try us we’d love to have you. Tell who you are or keep it a secret. Either way is fine. We believe our work is of very good quality…especially when the price is taken into account.

We know that working moms and stay-at-home moms are both looking to stretch their dollars farther. We’re on board because we are there, too. We think that Portraits Today Studios is an excellent value to everyone. So give us a try and give your honest opinions online. We’d appreciate the business and the critiques.

Go All “Hollywood” With Your Portrait

Many times we have been asked here at Portraits Today Studios if we can do glamour photos. And the answer is “yes, we can.” For a small upcharge per pose, you can “Go Hollywood” with your favorite portrait pics.

The picture on the left is a photo of Marie. Some of you may recognize her from the portrait studio as she is often there taking pictures of you, your family or babies. As you can see she is a beautiful lady. We were just testing lights in this photo so nothing spectacular was done before the photo was taken. No makeup. No hairstylist. We just sat her down and took her picture. And she looks good, doesn’t she?

The photo on the right is the result of a little computer work we did after she got to looking at the photo. She wanted to lighten her hair a little and remove the redness from her face. And could we make her look just a shade slimmer? The answer turned out to be yes on all accounts.

Portraits Today Studios prides our selves in having your photos ready for you within the hour when you order our Quick n’ Fun Portrait Packages. Now if we “Go Hollywood” we’re gonna have to ask you to come back later that day or the next so that we can do the photos up right for you. We are happy to do it.
